Val-Jalbert

The historic village of Val-Jalbert

Off-Site Activities

Step back in time to the heart of an authentic industrial village

Take a true journey back in time and discover life in an industrial village of the early 20th century at the Val-Jalbert Historical Village. Founded in 1901 and abandoned in 1927, this historic site transports you to an era when pulp production dictated the daily lives of the residents.

Val-Jalbert is not just a historical reenactment: it is an authentic old mining town, where many buildings and structures still bear witness to the life that once thrived there. As you explore the village during your visit, stroll through its streets and discover some 40 original buildings, while meeting characters who will bring the history and anecdotes of this community to life.

Let yourself be swept away by the unique atmosphere of this village, which seems frozen in time. With its blend of heritage, nature, and new discoveries, Val-Jalbert offers an immersive experience that provides a deeper understanding of the daily lives of the workers and families who shaped the region’s industrial history.

Don’t miss the impressive Ouiatchouan Falls, either. Hop on the cable car and head up to admire this spectacular waterfall, which is more than 20 meters taller than Niagara Falls. From the summit, enjoy an exceptional view of the falls and the surrounding landscape.

A fascinating excursion that combines history, cultural heritage, nature, and breathtaking scenery—perfect for a day out with family, as a couple, or with friends.
