Snowshoe Hike at Cap au Leste

Strap on your snowshoes and set out to explore the magnificent snow-covered trails of Cap au Leste. Immerse yourself in the heart of Quebec’s boreal forest and explore kilometers of untamed wilderness, transformed by winter into a magical, postcard-perfect setting.

As you hike along the trails, take full advantage of the winter scenery and the region’s most beautiful viewpoints. Don’t forget your camera to capture the panoramic views stretching more than 180 degrees, 200 meters above the Saguenay Fjord. Faced with this vast expanse of white stretching as far as the eye can see, you’ll be awestruck by the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings.

The boreal forest covers more than half of Canada’s territory. It is one of the largest forest ecosystems on the planet and is home to thousands of wildlife species. In Quebec, this vast coniferous forest covers approximately 761,000 square kilometers, or nearly half the province’s total area.

The black spruce is one of the most common species there, along with the jack pine, balsam fir, white spruce, and larch. Several deciduous trees, including maple, sugar maple, paper birch, quaking aspen, oak, and linden, also contribute to this diverse ecosystem.

The wildlife of the boreal forest is just as remarkable. It is home to about thirty species of mammals, including the beaver, red fox, coyote, wolf, mink, white-tailed deer, caribou, moose, black bear, muskrat, hare, and wood mouse. More than 150 species of birds also nest there, including the pileated woodpecker, the great grey owl, various species of falcons, owls, and ducks.
